Since 1998 Karoline has been passionately endeavoring to evolve into a quiltmaker, striving to create original pieces according to her own inspirations, often filled with personal symbolism.

She has recently completed two quilts, Will's Sojourn and Mod Doodles. She has also tried many patterns and techniques so far but her favorite is hand work - hand applique and hand quilting (see Textures With A View and Dreaming of Fall . Piecing, usually a background treatment, is done by machine to speed up the process. But she is happiest with a needle in her hand, doing applique. Tamre's Dragon is the latest commissioned piece completed.

Playing with other quilt designers' patterns has also been important for developing the necessary skills to go in her own direction.

Karoline's work tends to be mostly utilitarian. Small pieces such as wall hangings are not her main focus, although she is working on developing some small 'Kitchen Quilts' for sale. They will be made from 'foodie' fabric.

She is currently concentrating on creating larger pieces which are meaningful, beautiful and useful. Pieces which can be hung on the wall as art, or thrown on the couch to cuddle up in. A current commission is the Lagola Quilt. Also a folksy but sophisticated log cabin 'quillow' can be folded up into a pillow and thrown in the car for a long trip. There's also a red Hawaiian piece that will soon be completed. But she is most proud of the wedding quilt Textures with a View.

Pieces take anywhere from one month to one year to complete, depending on complexity. Some pieces need to 'cook' in her head, so she lets them. Others progress at a good and even pace. Ultimately, quilts evolve at their own pace.

All her work is done with 100% cotton fabrics, batting and backing. They are high quality pieces which with proper care, should last a very, very long time. She intends to begin working with silks, hand dyed fabrics and has recently incorporated beading into some quilted pieces.
